MYTH #1: THE MORE DETERGENTS YOU WILL PUT ON YOUR CLOTHES, THE CLEANER THEY WILL GET.
FALSE: WHY? The more detergent you use, the more water you will need to consume to rinse off the suds(if you are washing by hands). If you are using a washing machine, the machine will not be able to tell if the clothes have been rinsed right; you will end up with half-rinsed clothes, which will turn smelly once they dry.
A BETTER SOLUTION: First, try using half as much detergent as you would instinctively put; when the results aren't to your liking, you can always add a little more. Remember, it's easier to add more, but you can never take away detergent that has already been poured into the wash.
MYTH #2: HOT WATER WILL REMOVE ALL DIRT AND KILL ALL GERMS.
FALSE: WHY? Unless the water is boiling hot-which you can't very well pour on to your clothes because you'll end up damaging them- it will not be enough to kill all germs and bacteria.
A BETTER SOLUTION: use a detergent that has anti-bacterial properties to effectively sanitize your laundry.
MYTH #3: THE MORE BLEACH, THE BETTER.
FALSE: WHY? Bleach is primarily made of an acidic component, and it can cause your clothes to tear. Also, pouring it directly onto a piece of cloth is more damaging than helpful.
A BETTER SOLUTION: Liquid detergents that are concentrated makes clean clothes better and are more cost-efficient because you can wash more clothes with them.

Living in a cold climate especially during winter I would prefer using a liquid detergent than a powder since I observed they don't get totally mixed with water producing crumbs esp when water is also cold so I mix some lukewarm water and liquid detergent. But in a warm and tropic country I think powder detergent would just be fine to use. So weather has to do with the detergent you use.
That was an informative post and just in time as I'm doing my laundry after my clothes became really dirty in my trail run. That's a laundry challenge.

this is a great advice for homemaker though we do not have fully automated washing machine and had only a low end machine to wash clothes, then I use my feet to rinse detergents works all the time
We were actually able to tackle this back in college, as I took up Clothing Tech back then. It's good to touch up on this part of cleaning and washing clothes, especially when clearing up the wrong conclusions when it comes to this process.
I agree with the tips here and I think washing your clothes with enough water will totally make it clean without the bad smell.
Hmmm, never wondered why sometimes some of my clothes end up with some detergent maybe because I put too much of it. Thanks for the tip, this time I'll not repeat washing my clothes again due to the detergent remains and this will lessen also my use of such... :D

Ha..ha..ha.. I am the King of Labada as my wife always brag to her amigas.. Yes, most of your points are true. Yung lang liquid detergent ang medyo may doubt ako. hindi kasi ako gunagamit nyan eh. LOL
now i know why my mom dont want me to do the laundry..
i think i will shift to liquid detergents now. as we are using fully automatic washing machine, i cannot tell how clean are the clothes when they get out ready for fully drying.
Before we're fan of powder detergents, even how many scoop we put on WM, the dirt were still there so we ditch it, and now using Dynamo Liquid detergent, the best and the clothes smells a lot a of better even without using fabric con.

I do our laundry every week and I use similar heavy duty washing machine. I just put enough laundry detergent depending on the amount or bulk of clothes. Your better solutions are practical to do away of the myths

Also try to but a bit of baking soda in the wash. That helps.
